Something i've been thinking about for a while (having watched to many Agatha Christie episodes), and touched on: www.b3ta.com/board/9762982
Basically I like the idea of some seriously beautiful daytime photographic opportunities and interesting localities out and about in the locality to visit of where ever we arrange this, but also a reasonably dramatic location to return to at the end of the day, with roaring fires, sturdy windows between us and the howling wind, haunted rooms and stairwells, ideally when the weather is at it's worst in this country around February, so no one can escape. Smoking jackets for gentlemen will be reasonably pointless as you can't smoke indoors these days, but we could bring along token body warmers to cope with the cold and add the charm :) Ladies; your best frocks for the bar, I suggest with added body warmers!
After my initial post above, this place was suggested: www.carbisdale.org/index.htm which will certainly fit the bill for Scotland and remoteness; it's seriously hard North in Scotland, and fits the bill in most of what I was thinking about above, so the weather should be well and truly harsh. Given I have never been there I have emailed them requesting more information regarding stuff that might be interesting to visit during the day, photographic opportunities, etc, we could get to near by. If we generate enough interest I will front what ever it would cost to hire a mini-bus, or god forbid a coach to do something local; though I would want everyone to sort me out after I did anything with my credit card!
The only thing that perturbs me about the place is it's apparently a youth hostel; I would be far happier to pay the extra yards for private and secure sleeping arrangements with the gear I would have with me.
Parents: It would actually be quite nice to be grounded with the presence of your kids during the day if we can get round to organising anything, and if a few of you of you sign up I don't see any reason why 'shifts' couldn't be set up between you as we get pissed at the bar in the evening sort of thing to keep an eye on the little guys, but that would be something for you to arrange
Drugs Don't even think about it. You will be in a remote location with nowhere to retreat to other than your room, so if you flip out and start making a right prat of yourself on coke or acid you are going to be fucked with nowhere really to go. Simply don't bother, whilst b3ta is a generally fluffy place, you can kill your reputation in real life by being a twat in moments, and exposed to violence if you get out of hand.I doubt the bar will be open till five in the morning until you have drunk yourself mellow. Please don't include drugs other than the odd joint in your baggage!
Alcohol Yes, anyone who has been to a b3ta bash will know we drink like fish, and by and large are a fluffy bunch, incapable of chav like behaviour. This is good, but there have been some notable moments where you think FFS. Given we will be in the middle of nowhere, please don't think it will be cool to start the day with a hearty bout of alcoholic consumption because the rest of us will in all probability have to spend the rest of the day in your pissed company; which could end up on you being abandoned somewhere rather dramatically, and the evening, which if you have spent all day being pissed as a cunt, will just ruin the occasion for everyone else when the rest of us want to chill, like normal people
I'm seriously open to ideas though, I would actually prefer the idea of somewhere without the youth hostel tag; I would prefer the idea of people who sign up being bound to do so by having to make some prior arrangement economically so we would have a reasonably reliable idea of genuine numbers so we can plan stuff like coaches, or mini-buses, etc. Doesn't have to be Scotland, simply somewhere reasonably remote
Bottom line: Remote, interesting things to do in a couple of days during the day, and an evening or two sort of gothic, dramatic, and haunted

Needs more description
Unfortunately I am broke, penniless and have no money. The Scottish landscape and scenery is beautiful. If I were richer I would GAZ you with a brief introduction to what a nice and drug free chap I really am.
Anyway must dash, I've been to the beach and I seem to have misplaced my rucksack.....

from London to Ben Nevis (only half way up Scotland), then back home via two other mountains located in England and Wales. I've done it twice now. You want two drivers, and it's expensive to hire drivers. With that in mind, I'd volunteer to help drive.
Some hostels are ok, some are really fun places to hang out late at night with their own bar. Obviously it varies from place to place, I don't know what's all the way up there. I'd be happy to pay more for "better" accommodation.
Deffo interested, when did you have in mind?

but if you have the licence good to know once up there, given it's going to be seriously remote and we may want to get to places!
That place shuts down basically between now and March, unless it's private; so I shall await their brochure
Howdie btw :)

and that's good, coz I'm in India in Jan.
Howdie! How's tricks?
Thinking about it, you'll likely attract people from all over GB, so one northbound bus wouldn't cut it. Logistics would depends on your choice of location. SYHA's buildings range from cottages to large, opulent houses, and a Castle.
And of Carbisdale itself, it's been said, "one of the most opulent Youth Hostels in the World"

So we plan central somewhere, do you have a coach licence?

I can go read up on this to be sure - my understanding is - if driving a minibus for no reward, a special licence is not required, just a car licence, appropriate insurance, and a sense of responsibility.
Btw, I like your fisheye photo at the BM. Last time I was there, there were cleaners standing on top of that glass roof.

although for maximum chances of getting all and sundry to participate,
maybe scout out a 'central' area of UK. Places that fall along or close to the M1 would help.
That way it would even out travel distances and maybe appeal to more people.
Just a thought :)

Edit: FFS, can't edit the subject line stillI, that's
I've still got the google earth open for that place, and it is seriously far north to get to for a bash, even for such drama
Ideas for somewhere remotely based off the M1 anyone, so we all can get to?
Haunted, dramatic, Morris Dancers, etc

I'd love to come along if this were Northern England/Scotland based!
Edit: and naturally, I'd be happy to bung money towards this great bash!

Me and the Ex stayed there a few years back. It's gorgeous, set on lake Haweswater near Shap in Cumbria (which is also beautiful countryside). Golden Eagles fly overhead, it's absolutely isolated and we only saw one other person + dog the whole time we were there over Christmas. The hotel is basically as you described above, with a log fire etc.
The hotel is pretty decent too, considering it's the only choice in the area. Not cheap, but not so expensive for a man of your means.
