I say to Brooker
Tropes are not necessarily bad.
tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TropesAreTools?from=Main.TropesAreNotBad
Basically yes the format is established but it's what you fill it with is what matters.
Still, nice deconstruction.

I understand your point
But as your link says (towards the bottom) - "All tropes can be overused", which I think is the point.
Maybe the lighthouse keeper being beheaded is less overused

I do love Charlie Brooker
And I love this, although it smacks slightly of Michael Mcintyre's style of stating-the-obvious humour. But still, ver' funny and good.
Only improvement would be Chris Morris shouting "THIS IS THE NEWWWS" at the beginning.

But at least Brooker's head doesn't bob up and down
like a fucking nodding dog or laugh as he's telling the joke or be an annoying cunt.
BTW I'm not one of those people who joined the MM-hating bandwagon - I've always disliked him.
:)

Don't know why I'm being so negative!
I quite like MM, he has made me laugh in the past, but more and more I basically see him as John Culshaw's impression. Damn floppy hair.
Anyway to stay OT, Charlie Brooker is great and he could come round for tea any day of the week.

my hatred for Michael Mcintyre is down to one thing
the Daily Mail ran a story on him saying he was basically a nice safe clean comic for all the family and not like those nasty Russell Brands and Jonathan Rosses.
It really really made me dislike him.
In reality I'm prepared to accept that he's just some guy who's worked hard and got a bit of luck. Fair play to the moon faced cunt.
But Christ, you don't want press like that. "The comic the Daily Mail says it's ok to like" Eeek.
edit: DM link here if anyone cares.

I watched this bit twice last night
And then again here, and I'm still laughing out loud at it. Sometimes you see something like this and know you'll never be able to watch the original again without seeing how stupid it is. Thanks Charlie - I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the news without laughing again.
