Finished my charity fundraising robot DON-8r
I made this!
This video is a more refined version of my last video depicting some user testing with my robot DON-8r (http://www.b3ta.com/links/614349) - which got into the newsletter, and has since knocked up a shed load of unexpected views (woohoo!)
All the interaction here is unprompted and natural - I love the contrast between the three playful kids and the three businessmen!
I have produced this video in order to respond to the comments and questions people have been raising about the way DON-8r works - so I hope it clarifies!
My final hand-in / presentation for Uni is tomorrow and this video is one of the deliverables so hoping it goes down well! And for that reason I'll be as active as I can with any comments here but I have a presentation to practice...

It's full of nice people if you look in the right places

I think this is great
something like this would work great outside for places like @bristol/science museums.
An interactive, fun, fundraising robot.
Good work Sir, good work.

Still as great as the last time
I saw it. I really hope you go on to manufacture these - maybe go on dragon's den or something. They're a wonderful idea and would work wonders in a lot of situations. I can see a lot of charities buying them.

I'm not sure if that would be legal.
Begging isn't allowed, I'd imagine begging by proxy is also not allowed.

That isn't begging.
They aren't asking for money, they are just standing there and you can choose to give them money if you wish. This robot is actively asking for money.

You obviously have much nicer
charity collectors around your way. They regularly stop me in the street and ask me for money. It's almost as if there's an exception in the law about charities soliciting donations in the street - oh wait, that's right, there IS an exception.

I would love to manufacture DON-8r
this model has far too many man hours of hard graft and handiwork put into it. Thinking of seeking funding to get the next version machine made, or at least get a machine to make the moulds so I can make them a bit more efficiently

the robot knew the pointlessness of his life
and tried to end it all in the road

that was a really funny shot to do
DON-8r kept turning away from the road at the very last moment ruining my hero moment - it clearly values it existence!
