Universities need 3 contact points with overseas students in a year.
ed: I say overseas, I mean non-eu. EU students can do as they like.

The university I work at requires students to present their IDs a lot more than that.
There is a genuine sense of fear that the uni will lose its licence. And the woman I work with who deals with the foreign students knows them all by name & yet needs to see passports & student ID regularly....

Maybe she thinks they all look the same so she gets easily confused as to who they are.

Might I make a suggestion for a new year's resolution for you, Flaps?

Actually it looks like the regs have changed since I last looked at them.
It's back to having cease sponsorship after 10 missed expected contacts, monitored twice a year.
ed: although in exceptional circumstances you can choose to not cease sponsorship, FFSUKBA.

Also, I'm not really sure how that proves they're attending lectures/seminars... etc.
