This is a normal post Good luck with it
how does one go about writing a non-contemporary sci-fi novel?
I'm presuming contemporary refers to the genre style, rather than a setting where psychic conspiracies exist, but I could be wrong. Or is it just that it's published recently?

This is a normal post Contemporary meaning that it's set now
- rather than in 2120 or something.

This is a normal post Fair enough
Perhaps it’s the dissonance with “sci-fi”. If it’s the completely mundane “now”, then it’s not really sci-fi. And if it’s some sci-fi alternate version of reality, is it really contemporary? Anyway, it’s not a big deal, probably my own subjective interpretation. Hope you get some sales

May I introduce you to Frankenstein, The War of the Worlds, Quatermass or The X Files?

This is a normal post I'm perhaps suggesting the word contempory can have multiple intepretations
the war of the worlds was set in a version of hg wells present day 1890s when he wrote it. Is it contemporary sci fi because of that, or no longer contemporary because it's a century old. If I wear a space suit or a tweed suit, is it contemporary fashion by virtue that I'm wearing it in 2023? If setting a novel in 2023 makes it contemporary, even if there's giant alien space chickens living among us, I'm fine with that interpretation. but I would say that sci-fi appeal is that it gives us an alternate to our mundane (or contemporary) reality, and if it doesn't, then how is it sci-fi?

This is a normal post It occurred at the same time it was wrote, so therefore contemporary

This is a normal post just to emphasise the point, I looked up "contemporary fiction" and got three quite different defintions in my first three hits
"Contemporary fiction is the term literary critics use to describe literature written between 1990 and the present." www.masterclass.com/articles/contemporary-fiction
"Books in the contemporary fiction genre are made up of stories that could happen to real people in real settings" book-genres.com/contemporary-fiction-definition/ but then somewhat dubiously lists an Agatha Christie book as an example, but my guess is that sci-fi might be out
"What is contemporary fiction, you ask? Simply put, it's fiction that is set in the present day" www.zuliewrites.com/blog/what-is-contemporary-fiction

This is a normal post So yes - it's fiction that is set in the present day
- but with psychics and super-science stuff in it.

PS I love how you have to game the Amazon search engine with the book title description. I fucking hate what Amazon have done to pretty much everything. Also, this is what happened when I had Bard write your wife's story for me because I was too lazy to buy and read it:
