This is a normal post We can expect the UK to respond robustly to this outrage.
Possibly by closing the curtains and pretending to be out.

This is a normal post Hahaha spot on
I am astonished that a nerve agent has been released on UK soil in a very shabby manner by Russia and we just shuffle around and get on with it. Wonder why. In any terms this is totally unacceptable. Any other tin pot country and a task force would be assembled of Air Craft carriers which have no planes.

This is a normal post The only thing I find astonishing is that they bungled the assassination.
The UK is a toothless dog at the moment. We don't have the time, money or resources for a fight with Putin and he knows it. He's busy manipulating the USA, creating discord in the EU and razing Syria to the ground knowing we will just sit here hoping he might just go away if we don't make eye contact.

This is a normal post Difficult to do anything about though
From his position it was a win-win move with an election coming up, as it'll scare the dissidents at home. If we play hard ball he gets to say "Look, the West are belligerent, you need a strong leader." If we do nothing then we give carte blanche for him to knock off a few more traitors...

This is a normal post Someone on Newsnight put it best when they said "Russia is a rogue elephant".

(, Mon 12 Mar 2018, 19:09, , Reply)
This is a normal post It's far more dangerous than that
It's a rogue elephant with a purpose, and the intelligence to achieve that.

This is a normal post it's the perfect excuse to boycott the world cup
We wont though because millions of delusional brexicunts would feel aggrieved.

This is a normal post I think we should.
That way we can pretend we had a chance of winning rather than just watch England stack it in the first few matches and end up with tonnes of bunting and flags going to land fill.

This is a normal post Well we could go to the U.N. which would take firm and decisive act....
Sorry what was I thinking.

Better to let MI6 off the leash, hurt Putin in some way personally whilst going through the usual diplomatic motions.

Also take a stern view of any politician that goes on RT.

This is a normal post Am I the only one who thinks this is all a bit bonkers?
Whoever it was didn't even kill them. Why the James Bond overtones when a double tap from a .22 with a well planned getaway would have done the job?
I don't see that a fate like that is less scary than nerve gas or radioactive tea.
If the message is "If you betray us, you will pay" then surely death is more scary than making you puke a bit and have to put up with hospital radio.

This is a normal post This way puts the wind up the papers and the public more though
It's all about spreading a bit of fear, making us fret. A unremarkable gun murder would have been out of the news in 1 or 2 days, and we wouldn't have known it was them
(, Mon 12 Mar 2018, 21:58, , Reply)
This is a normal post I see your point
But I'm not fretting much. You see, I've never been a spy. There, I said it. So they wouldn't come after me anyway with a knife, gun or exploding cat fitted with radioactive laser beams. They aren't trying to scare me, just nawty people.

This is a normal post This isn't about killing a defector
This is boasting about possessing the ability to do so brazenly, publicly, and without serious consequences. That the victims appear to have lived is a trivial inconvenience.

This wasn't an assassination, it was a statement. A demonstration of capability.

This is a normal post I get that
But why not a full magazine of an AK47 through the chest? Job done. Message sent. It wouldn't be hard to do that by surprise and get away for a professional. Micheal Ryan wandered about Hungerford for about two hours before anyone even knew where he was. And he was an aimless arsehole.

This is a normal post I think they tried to pull a Litvinenko
As in pull off a hit that's so outrageous it not only disposed of the target, but also sends a message to anyone else thinking of doing something similar. See also the poison umbrella. Except in this case it seems they didn't finish the job.

This is a normal post I'm not buying it
It is just TOO obvious. A drive by shooting by a local gang with mistaken identity would suffice with the right amount of winks and sarcasm.I'm probably wrong, usually am.

This is a normal post I think it's exactly because they want the James Bond overtones.
A highly elaborate assassination that leaves no doubt on who the perpetrator was, designed to strike fear in to their enemies.. no matter where you hide our organisation and allies will find you etc.

It is also the kind of thing that demands a reaction from the UK government in the face of such an outrageous action. That way when we respond Putin, who has an election looking, can use it as a spot of sabre rattling like the Argies do with the Falklands every time they have an election.

It's international panto played out by little boys with small willies again.
