you might also be interested in 'dynamic soaring' with radio controlled gliders. They loop them over areas of extreme wind shear (up a mountain) and reach speeds of hundreds of mph (about ten times faster than the actual wind speed).
Supposedly this technique could also be applied to spacecraft in the interstellar medium, which is why I've heard about it.

It's also the technique used by albatrosses to stay aloft for very long periods.
