I lived up near Postgates place in Blean about 20 years ago when he had a prop sale. I have an original clanger and two of the Nagoya's church mice.
Sad times.

They've been in the Beany Canterbury museum for about 6 years now. You can pop in and see them yourself. I paid a ridiculously low couple of hundred quid for them in about 1996 (I think.. Might have been 97)

I met Oliver Postgate once and shook his hand. I saw tiny clanger's 'voice' and the actual bagpuss used in the show.
He talked exactly the same in real life as he did on the show. He had the sort of voice you would want to narrate your own death with the words "And then they went to sleep"

I liked the story that all the Clanger whistling was actually scripted dialogue, and in one episode where a door sticks, Major Clanger is actually shouting "Sod it, the bloody things stuck again!"
When they released the speaking Clanger dolls a few years ago, the manufacturers asked Postgate what audio he wanted to put on the voice box. Guess what millions of childrens toys are whistling when you squeeze them...

Wow, amazing.
Was that when you were a kid, or...? How did it come about?
What was "tiny clanger's voice" - a little sliding whistle of some kind?
Definitely a mesmerising and soothing voice.

Sad news but also a long lived successful life so that’s to be celebrated. So much happiness to so many people.

I searched before posting, but nobody in this thread mentions his name!
Ah well, I posted a vid of Bagpuss, which is never a bad thing.
