This is a normal post OK, an American fridge filled with batteries will store lots of energy.
Why is that so ground-breaking?

Plus... having seen the explosive results of phone battery self-discharge, I'd hate to be near something that size when it goes up.

This is a normal post Yeah.... first off lithium ion batteries are incredibly polluting to make so unless you're running your home off a diesel jenny there's no environmental benefit.
Secondly they have this nasty habit of catching fire.
