Fishing both top-down and bottom-up in the food chain
At least they eat jellyfish too

they blamed jellyfish too, for lack of fish in recent years (not warmer sea temperatures and pollution). turns out they were exponentially adding to the jellyfish bloom by netting them all up chopping them to bits and chucking them back in the sea.

...and another of their arguments for eating whale is the 'problem' of whale population growth - where they evilly consume more resources.
And they say that it's the Americans that don't get irony...

The Japanese population not growing is due to lack of whale kebabs.

If you are talking about "eating them" in Traditional Tory Victorianesque definition of the word.
Otherwise I would warn about that the 54% of "Eatable" Japanese has the oldest average minge age on the planet.
But each to his own.
