You think your hangovers are bad?
My success with booze is variable. Sometimes I can drink and drink and not be significantly the worse for wear in the morning. Sometimes, though - and even without having drunk all that much - I get the most catastrophic hangovers known to humanity.

So it was that, on one memorable occasion a couple of years ago, 1 pint + 1 pint = 48 hours of vomiting blood.

I'm sure that that's not entirely healthy...

It's what's commonly known as having a bad pint.
You can attribute this to a plethora of wierd and brutish hangovers.

The older I get the more 'bad pints' I seem to have... at least, that would explain why my hangovers seem to be getting worse.

If I remember correctly, it was only Stella. On other occasions, I've been made horiffically ill by a single pint of Grolsch.

BGB - I don't think it's bad pints. I've learned to detect what's coming: there've been occasions when, before I've finished my first G&T, I've known that the following day would be a write-off - I get clobbered that quickly. The next time I drink from the same bottle, though, I'm likely to be fine. 'Tis very odd.

It may also be an age thing (i'm 31)
I sometimes wake up feeling shit, wishing I had abstained, only to realise that I hadnt drunk a drop the previous night. At which point I normally perk up.

Possibly age, possibly not. I got my first ever hangover on the morning of my 18th birthday. I think it has something to do with my propensity to migraine - whereas other people feel groggy, my hangovers tend to go thermonuclear in a way that's indistinguishable from migraine.

Still doesn't explain the blood-vomit, though.

My friend had that while we were at school. It was before we started drinking, so nothing to do with that, but he would spew blood for days on end.

I think it was a burst blood vessel leaking into his stomach. IIRC he had to chew his food thoroughly and not eat anything too hot. It could also be a stomach ulcer if yours is aggrivated by booze. I don't know how that makes you get hammered super-fast though?!

I like Stella
but then I'm blessed with a fairly cast iron stomach. I'm only human though and after a few days of heavy drinking I have to quit or I'm creased. It's all a matter of finding what works for you and what doesnt. The ride is fun! I have mates who can lower pint after pint of Guinness and buckle under a brace of lagers and vice versa. For low-chemical content in your beers, stick to the Germans. We all have much to thank them for :)

As a rule of thumb, the more expensive the lager, the better I am. Things like Carling or Fosters kill me. Things like Stella and Grolsch, notwithstanding what I said above, are usually OK.

a lot of places stock Becks Vier nowadays. It's pretty pure. Mate of mine with the most volatile skin and delicate constitution imaginable swears by it.

the problem I tend to have is that after 4 or so pints of lager I insist that we drink silly things like sumbuca and jagermeister. a good idea at the time, but considering each of them has to be washed down with a pint I'm normally feeling a bit the worse for wear the next morning after 8 pints and 4 jaegers.....

Rolling Rock lager is reputedly made from very pure ingredients too.

I've never gotten on with Stella though. It's evil stuff and despite being "reassuringly expensive" guff. In my experience there is a direct correlation between anything remotely wrong that has ever happened to me on a night out and Stella Artois having been consumed.

The cheap lager rule of thumb is only that. Closer to the truth is that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what sets me off. Beer's sometimes fine, sometimes not. Ditto lager, wine, spirits...

The best way to get a hangover...
Is to mix it up :)

Generally, I start with a quartet of cans of Stella (I don't actually like it draught), then move onto a few vodkas (to wash down the goodness that is e) - then onto the pub. Few Pints of Carlsberg, couple of Sambuccas and/or Absinthe. Top up with more Calrsberg (adding whatever illegal substances are to be found) et voila - next day the perfect hangover...

Never vomited blood though (yet)
