Just a scratch/little prick
When you to have a vein 'cannulated' (ie a needle in) and someone utters one of the phrases above, kick them in the balls/pedunda and cheerfully say, 'just a slight stroke'.
I have done thousands of cannulations. Some people don't feel a thing, but others feel a lot of pain, it depends on how sensitive the skin you are cannulating through is, and has nothing to do with being a softy.
Suggesting that feeling pain=big girls blouse is cruel. Stop it.
Rant over.

I agree
I would much rather someone said..."Ok, this might hurt like hell so be prepared"
Than me think I have to be brave and act like it doesn't hurt LIKE HELL!

I tend to say
This might hurt. Patients are not morons, they understand that in Hospitals, bad things have to happen to make them well (for the most part)

Thanks
I always wondered why they claimed it would be a scratch when it felt a lot worse. That said the person doing it matters as well. I had one nurse who tried eleven times to get blood, and another who got it first try

I usually get 'sharp scratch'
but the new nurse says "on 3. 1 2 3.." but then does it on 1, the crafty moo.

It wasn't so much the "sharp scratch" that hurt the last time I had blood taken, but the fact that the operator of the Syringe the needle was attached to, couldn't keep the bloody thing still...
Arsehole.
