I've spoken to someone over a webcam/msnand they've tacked a LOL on to a message and I could clearly see that they weren't laughing, nevermind out loud.

I rest my caseI only use the 'lol' if the incident is genuinely funny, otherwise if I'm mildly amused Id just go 'heh' or something simalar
