This is somewhat common in English.
The phonetic cues for the [r] sound are pretty spread out in time, so it's easy for listeners to be confused about how many 'r's there are in a word. This is also supposed to explain why words with multiple 'r's sometimes lose them, like in February/surprise/governor.
My cousin used to say "Breafrast", and I share your pain.
