Indeed.Leaders of countries use religion to zealotise the masses. Usually the reasons behind the conflict are much more pedestrian; resources, land etc.

Jesus told the disciples to love one anotherand christians have been slaughtering each other for hundreds of years over exactly what Jesus meant by that.
