I don't understand the attraction
Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Can someone enlighten me as to how people can listen to someone screaming "Rawwr rawwr rawwr" into microphone?

aw thats not fair, man!
Lots of metal I find impenetrable but it isnt easy to play so there is definitely something in it for people who like their music textured.
The rawr thing or the heavy metal scream is often dull but some singers not only scream effectively but can change to a 'clean' vocal at the drop of a hat and the counterpoint is impressive and sometimes even lovely.
Check out Opeth and their singer Mikael Akerfeldt.

The lovely Angela
I swear most people only go to Arch Enemy shows to hear "The woman who sounds like a man". She's tiny. But a great crowd puller.
She's also one of the few death metal screamers you can actually make out the words in.

She is lovely...
But she's still only average looking compared to Christina Scabbia

Do want, all of them.
Also add any number of other female metal singers. Quite often they are hot.

If I knew, I'd tell you
But I don't know why either, I simply enjoy it.
Tomorrow I'm off to see a few bands, two of which are near impossible to understand - Trigger The Bloodshed and Behemoth.
Not sure what it is, be it the intricate guitar work, the drummer going insane, or something like that, but I love it!

Metal's not just about the vocals
There's a hell of a lot more to it than that. Personally, for me, it's all about sick basslines and even sicker drumbeats. You should try listening past the vocals, turn your bass up to max and keep the volume at a decent level :)
