This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

FUCKING STARWARS
The MOST overrated films of all time - poor editing, boring repetitive story (ever noticed that two of the films have the same plot?), some deeply annoying characters, most of the mattes look fake and, above all, people think it is intellectually better than a quite astounding number of thoroughly more deserving cinematic experiences. Burn the acetates please.

And yes I do know it is the source of c. 30% of all B3TA image challenges and internet memes. But that don't make the original good.

Oh length? About 2hrs 1 minute too long.

I saw it
when I was 10 and though it was fucking ace. Don't give it too much thought now though. Just a kids filum.

I saw one of 'em
when I was 11 and thought it was ok till the scene where they're on the run in space so they hide in an asteroid. The thick part occurs when they hop out of their ship to take a look round... without wearing any effing spacesuit ...then it turns out they're down the throat of some space beastie making the whole premise even stupider.
Its just a panto albeit a v.big budget panto, dumb it down for the kids & set the standard for future big box office films.

Just had this argument with my housemate about 10 minutes ago...

It ended with me saying, "Well, it's all a bit far-fetched really, isn't it?"

YES!
I was probably 8 or so when Star Wars came out - liked it then, but not enough to ever want to watch it again.

Ah, quick check reveals I was 9 (still an old fucker though...)

Unlike all of you
never saw any of the first 3 (that I remember) until about 6 months ago.

Instant fan, it's completely lovable, flaws and all. The lack of cobbling together is what cost the second trilogy its soul.
