This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

If there's any justice in the world
Then the answer "Redditch" will win this QoTW.

(explanation for those many of you lucky enough not to have been there: Redditch was once a nice market town in Worcestershire. Then it was turned into a "New Town" and massive estates were created plus a road system of awesome proportions. The estates were basically filled with the council tenants from nearby Birmingham and Coventry that both councils wanted out of their jurisdiction, thank you very much.)

I lived there for two horrendous years. And I'd moved from Handsworth, meant to be a rough area but my God it had nothing on Redditch.

I logon to QotW and the first post is one insulting my home town!
lol though I see what you mean. I moved here from Bromsgrove, seeing that £110k will get you are fairly room 3bed house here, as opposed to Bromsgrove where £110k will get you laughed out of the estate agents.

Benefit dependancy is my biggest gripe with this town - the council seem to be doing everything to house every Wayne and Waynetta who can't be arsed to work but managed to sire 6 brats. We've just had a BNP candidate do quite well in the elections too; voted in by the irony of the british dole scroungers moaning about the large population of Polish workers who have filled the vacancies that the Wayne and Waynettas can't be arsed to do.

However in its defence we've got a lot of facilities, awesome roads (I've lived here 3 years and never got stuck in a traffic jam - the roads are so damn wide!) good public transport and seems to be attracting a lot of local investment.

Downside - we've got Jaqui "phone tapping/email snooping" Smith as our MP.

Bollocks.

oh how fun...
being of the 'Grove variety, anything that comes from Redditch is the epitomy of common, which like you say is a shame, because it could be such a nice area...

Alas, they rehoused all of the areas Waynes, and because the 'Grove is such an afluent area they decide that all of the public transport expenditure/any expenditure/facility should not be in the grove, but the ditch... frightful... we pay for your busses don't you know... and round abouts... I have never understood them!

The Ditch
I lived there for a year and worked there for 5. I am originally from Sutton Coldfield so you can imagine my surprise that a town just round the M42 could be totally populated by inbreds crossed with inbreds.

TRUE STORY

Sitting in my mates house in Batchley by the pond, he used to deal a bit and had a lot of gear in the house as it was a Friday. 2 Police cars and a van pull up outside, we panic and start hiding the gear(it was a bedsit, not many places to be fair). Police steam up the path and we wait for the expected door bashing......but no, they go for the other door opposite...wtf. Turns out the guy opposite (Photographer(on dole!!)) was taking pictures of the local kids in his front room(playground and pond opposite so opportunity I suppose).

I actually lived above a pub "The Archers" if anyone is interested. I have said this before but the following sentence sums Redditch and it's inhabitants up :-

Sign on a roundabout made from a white sheet with big red letters on it :-

"Happy 30 th Birthday Grandma: Lots of love Witney, Britney, Dwayne, Wayne"

Just level the place ffs.
