Gary Speed
Killed himself because The Sun newspaper had an injunction lifted about him being Gay and rang him last Saturday to say it would be on Mondays front page. Allegedly.

Makes sense.
One of his friends is a ballroom dancer.

I thought
it might be one of those 'wanking accidents'.
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 14:43, closed)
I must confess to having thought the same thing
nothing says 'asphyxi-wank' like 'found hanged under no suspicious circumstances'.
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 14:50, closed)
Guilty of assuming that too actually.
Hutchence has ruined accidental hanging for everyone.

My best friend died doing just that :(
It was quite a few years ago and so obviously I've got over it.
It's interesting because although personally I don't find jokes about the subject funny, I don't find them offensive in the least. It just gives me a different perspective on the issue.

You don't find jokes about death by masturbation funny?
Your friend didn't just kill himself that day, he killed your sense of humour.
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 15:01, closed)
LOL

About death by masturbation, yes.
but knowing that your mum owes my dog etc...
...is hilarious ;)

I must ask
Did he still have a lob-on when they found him?
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 15:07, closed)
Well, I guess he was stiff.

I was speaking to an ex-paramedic, once,
who told me he'd given up the job primarily because he was fed up getting called out to find people who had auto-erotically asphyxiated themselves. Said he was in danger of losing all faith in humanity.
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 15:14, closed)
He should have just chilled out a bit
by having a wank or something

Breathe - by Tim Winton
One of the best books I've ever read starts with this premise

Not his crippling addition to gambling then
- he was scared of being called a woofter? Yeah that makes sense.
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 14:47, closed)
Well the Scum denied it via Twitter
so it's probably true
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 15:23, closed)
What was the denial?
'"Gary Speed's suicide was in no way linked to us publishing details of his gay secret sex life. #supersoarawaysun"
(, Thu 1 Dec 2011, 15:32, closed)
they're doing their upmost best this last week

to promote the idea that it was depression that caused him to kill himself. yeah, no shit. I'd be depressed too if I got a phonecall telling me that my life was going to be ruined for the purposes of profit in a couple of day's time.
