I used to be a chef
I still consider myself one, albeit not paid for it. I have tons of recipes but the one that is always going to be my staple and my favourite, my "What would you choose for your last meal" is relatively simple but delicious:

One loaf of fresh, crusty white bread, 2-3 toasted slices
A handful of brushed, Chestnut or more interesting Mushrooms or mixed, brushed and sliced plus a few quarters in there for controversy
1-2 very ripened Vine Tomatoes, cubed
Salt & Pepper
Herbs if you choose
Garlic or Chilli
Butter

Fry those Tom's and Mushies in Butter (+ Garlic or Chilli or both) with tons of salt and pepper and a few finely chopped herbs (lemon Thyme especially good)
spread all including the juice on toast and taste heaven. Cup of tea to go with it and and a sunny Sunday morning with the paper. Bliss. Honestly my favourite meal of all time.

/Edit I say "relatively simple" but anyone could make this!

It really is
A glass of champagne at 9am to go with it then off to the gas chamber, St Peter will greet me with a huge smile on my face!

...and a horrendously stale garlic breath

Garlic is lovely
On breath? Not so much. Most people have dental cleaning equipment nowadays suck as brushes, pastes, mouthwash, etc. You should check it out!

Its not me thats the problem
its the people I encounter on the train to work at close proximity.

garlic on your breath is somebody else's problem
Real mushrooms on toast are sauteed in butter, then a splash of white wine, now heavy cream and reduce. Pour over toast and garnish with chives and pepper.
Food fit for a ponce

Where were you a 'chef'?
Some greasy spoon in a caravan in a layby just off the A43?

This was a post about my favourite food to eat, not my best recipe.
My fail. The Mushrooms on Toast isn't at all greasy spoon, maybe not to everyone's taste though. I do love butter, cholesterol problems for me in the future no doubt!
I worked in a couple of chain wine bar type places at first, then worked up to Head Chef at an independent highly regarded restaurant by 18yrs old. Quit at 22 for graphic design!

The greasy spoon I worked at
was independent and highly regarded too.

Never worked in a a cafe/caravan/greasy spoon, true story. I never said I was Hughston Blumenramsay-whittingstall though!
