This is a question My Biggest Disappointment

Often the things we look forward to the most turn out to be a huge let down. As Freddy Woo puts it, "High heels in bed? No fun at all. Porn has a lot to answer for."

Well, Freddy, you are supposed to get someone else to wear them.

What's disappointed you lot?

Mt first EVA coveted front page possibly?

No - 'they' *looks upwards* move the bladdy goalposts...

Dumped stories "oh they're all too depressing, were not having a best this week"

I don't understand this rant.
I wish I did, but I don't.

That Spimf is a law unto himself.
And he likes to complain. But then again don't we all : )

i've taken the time to [EDIT] this post to make it allllll clear
and the thanks i get?

Out of interest...
What are the goalposts? I've had a fair few FP's now... I thought it was just down to the amount of clicks your story gets...

So, when you're voted top 5, is it in the top 5 of your own stories?

Spimf
But you are on the best of page for the getting dumped QOTW.

I don't get what the problem is?

edit - and on the advice from old people one

Thinker
Spimf was trying too say that he got onto the best pages for both the Dumped and the Advice from old people QOTW.

The weekly newsletter didn't post any of the best stories during the dumped week and cut down the advice from old people (apart from one bloke who made a Star Wars related joke)

@Al
Thanks mate... I'm wondering if Spimf would like to be on the Newsletter?

Have I got it, Spimf old boy? Because you are on the best of pages!

I don't think there's any set formula for the newsletter, the gods just pick a few to put on there. I've only ever been on it once myself... They edit it too, so it's not all glory!
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 17:33, closed)
@Devil_In_Tights
well you would think that

BUT THIS AINT NO DEMOCRACY

*they* pick the ones they like

i think it comes down to length

and you know i am famed for my length

[EDIT] and how long does 'recent front page' cover

your current profile says no recent front pages

they're fucking with our heads man!!!!!!!
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 17:34, closed)
I get it
It's all about teh newsletter.

I don't read the newsletter so I have no idea about these things.

Know the feeling
I got the second best answer for b3ta.com/questions/toldoff/ and I was so excited at the possibility of being included in the newsletter.

But in *their* infinite wisdom they filled the QOTW section for that week with previews of the next weeks one (Dirty Secrets of Your Trade or something)

I cried and sobbed and remonstrated for weeks. I still feel the injustice to this day.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 18:06, closed)
Hmmm
I was voted top for the 'we have to talk' QOTW and didn't get newslettered - that was a little while ago. Is it not so much that they've changed the goalposts, but that you only notice that they pick the ones they like to get newslettered when it happens to you?
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 18:30, closed)
I've not seen a direct
"top 5 = newslettered" correlation, ever.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 19:12, closed)
The Front Page bit in your profile
Has nothing to do with qotw - it's only for the /board.

*sigh*

And I'll agree with everything else that has been said before about newsletters - I've had a fair few 'Best of' pages but have only made the letter once and I've never, ever won qotw.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 20:06, closed)
Oh, the profile thing?
That's what he's on about?

What's all this goalposts and "they" about then?
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 20:14, closed)
At any time during the week you can add
/all to the qotw address in the toolbar at the top of your browser. Then you can see who is doing well and see all the replies.

Now this is handy for reading *everything* if that is your wont. It's also handy for seeing where your latest post is - the higher up the more likely it'll appear on the Best Of page.

However....a high score (number of clicks) is no guarantee...The week of Shit Stories I posted my rant about Shit Grammar...it was very high in the /all page list...But it didn't appear on the Best Of page - quite rightly really because it was entirely off topic.
Fortunately a couple of weeks later I got to repost it and it made the Best page then.

So you might get lots of clicks but then They decide it's not going on the BO page.

As someone has already said...b3ta isn't a democracy...not our site, not our decision.

And seeing the popularity the site has, who are we to question them?

*shakes fist at 'Them' behind Their backs when They're not looking.*
*Hides, just in case*
