This is a question DIY disasters

I just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.

Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

Tell us of your own DIY disasters.

Argos
Bought a computer desk from argos around a year ago, bad idea.
Went together fine, except the wheels didn't fit on and the top of the desk had a habit of falling off. A few months later the keyboard tray snapped off, all f the screws from inside it tearing huge chunks out of the edge of it.

I now have the aforementioned keyboard tray balanced on an overturned deck chair and am currently sat in bed, this being a disaster because I knock it over in my sleep and wake the whole street.

As previously stated in a different reply
it took us 3 weeks to assemble a bloody Argos computer desk. We got one that had doors so you could have the computer out of view, as it was going to live in our bedroom (not an ideal scenario, hence wanting to be able to hide it away).

Bloody bastard nightmare to construct particularly when there were screws to be screwed into holes where there wasn't actually enough space to get a screwdriver in...

the reason I prefer Ikea
you have screws that require allan keys, and if anything needs screwed in a small place, its those.

tho - all my argos stuff stands fine (but still took 4 hours + for my dad to assemble a simple computer desk)
