This is a question Family codes and rituals

Freddy Woo writes, "as a child we used to have a 'whoever cuts doesn't choose the slice' rule with cake. It worked brilliantly, but it's left me completely anal about dividing up food - my wife just takes the piss as I ritually compare all the slice sizes."

What codes and rituals does your family have?

Anyone else
need to make sure that the CD or DVD is correctly lined up in the box before putting it away? And then having a completely insane hissy fit when you find that someone has put them back any which way, or, god forbid, put them in the wrong way up?

yes.
yes, yes, yes.
if the title is not displayed on the disc in the correct position when i open that case, the little hairs on the back of my neck vibrate in anger.

agreed...
my mind tells me that the music will fall out if the writing is upside down!

Oh thank fuck for that...
I thought it was just me.

how about if someone put the cd back in the wrong case
and this happens again and again, so every time you go to find a cd you end up having to do a fucking cd chase

*twitches*
Don't even go there - this is the main reason I ripped my entire CD collection to MP3...

Me too...
The problem comes with the albums that have text written in a circle around the disc, which always seem wrong whichever way up they are.
I have taken to finding the wee copyright and label logos and orientating them by that...

Are you an excellent driver?
Does dad let you drive slow on the driveway every Saturday?
(, Fri 21 Nov 2008, 13:25, closed)
My parents let me drive very quickly up the driveway
at the end of my drive home to see them. They've got a long drive.

What's your point? That MM's childish for not wanting her CDs to be the right way up?
I spent 2 hours sorting my CD & DVD collection out again yesterday. Then a further hour sorting my books into height order, followed by alphabetical order (just by first letter, that way I'm told it's not OCD:P), then by thickness.

MM's behaviour really isn't that odd. Which makes me think you're probably trying to look real grown up in front of all these these other people. So you're probably somewhere around 16.
*waits for "Actually, I'm 32 AND A HALF" response*

Yup
Pink Goddess insists on this. Now I do it too, but only because she's lovely.

It's a fine line
between tradition and OCD.
