Triple the price of cigarettes? Why not simply ban them?Oh - that's right - because they bring in so much more tax than smokers cost - £8.5 vs. 1 bn (figures from 2007-8, if I recall correctly).
Cigarettes are an excellent form of revenue - smokers pay much more tax, and die much younger, improving the pension pot for everyone else. Encourage people to smoke, but like a good dealer, don't take your own stuff.
