My local chippy in Glesga would deep fry any of a range of bakery products.
But their masterpiece was the deep-fried cheese and onion piece. Thick sliced white bread and marge, orange cheapocheese and strong onion fried with or without batter. 25 pence.

I remember buying a battered Mars bar, back when they were a novelty.
I didn't enjoy it, which was no surprise, given that I don't like Mars bars.
