Jabboy contacted us because he's skint. So what have you done to make money fast? Did you actually make anything, or were you just ripped off by someone who really was getting rich quick? Did you have to sell your soul?

Get laid, get rich...
A friend of mine went on holiday and pulled. He stayed in touch with her and eventually they married. (This all happened a while back.)

I wonder whether the fact that she apparently comes from a family of multi-millionaires made any difference to his decision to propose?

I also wonder whether there was a pre-nup, and whether having these thoughts at all makes me a bad, cynical person?

"So, Debbie
What first attracted you to multi-millionaire Paul Daniels?"

From Mrs Merton, I think.

haha!
I met him once. He has a Rolls-Royce with the registration "M4GIC" or "MAG 1C" or "B 4LD" or something like that.

Reminds me of my sister and a "long lost friend"
Said friend had disappeared for some odd reason (I don't know, moved somewhere out of town or something) and they used to hang out with each other back in the day in school many moons ago and were best of friends and all that.

Suddenly became the best friend ever after many years, which by "pure coincidence" was timed with a recent lottery win. And had gave my sister money for various random things for the kids, and apparently didn't want the money back (said sister is still perennially on the dole, unemployed, for in excess of 25 years and dropping lots of kids in the process).

My folks were quick to take a dim view on my cynicism. They said "What's your problem Panteneman? Why do you have to be so dark and cynical about everything?"

"It will end in tears. I know it will. Isn't it a bit funny that she is best mates again all because she has money?" I reasoned.

Low and behold it did. Said "friend" got greedy and wanted this "given" money back, which she claims was loaned and not given out. And started becoming a bit of a capitalist, buying shit tip flats, doing them up and renting them out at extortionate prices. My sister argued against paying back as there wasn't a contractual agreement on paying her back for said money as it was given away, so her "friend" didn't have a leg to stand on.

Needless to say, the "friendship" has now been poisoned. Fucking knew that would happen.

Pink Floyd had it right people: Money is the root of all evil

Nothing wrong with cynicism, I would refer to it as being realistic if you take a sideways view at it.

Panteneman
Pink Floyd sid that money is the root of all evil?

Funny - I thought that the Bible came up with that one. (St. Matthew? Any god-botherers out there know?)

I'm no god botherer
but I believe the original version was more like 'the love of money is the root of all evil', not the money itself.

David Gilmour or whoever may well have misquoted it!

Radix malorum est cupiditas - the root of evil is avarice.

1 Timothy 6:10 states money is the root of evil/all evil/all sorts of evil, depending on your translation.

Does knowing this make me a god-botherer? And is that anything like a sheep-worrier?

Oh, yes.
Forgot about the "love of..." bit.

I have read the whole Bible. And the Apocrypha.

I am not a god-botherer. But I am a god-botherer-botherer.

^ when you read the whole bible
did you imagine Ian Paisley's voice in your head as you read it?

Yawns @ the pedantry police
It was in the Pink Floyd song "Money", from the "Dark Side of the moon" album.

Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil today.

OK...Not entirely precise but get over it.

NEXT

*yawns dismissively*

Money
I thought that was one of the classic misquotes...

Isn't it something like "The love of money is the root of all evil", rather than "Money is the root of all evil" - money itself not being bad, but being in love with it is?

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (King James version, I think)
