This is a question Getting Old

Drimble asks: When was it last brought home to you just how old you're getting? We last asked this in 2004, and you're eight years older now. Eight. Years.

I really want to go to Reading Festival this year
But I don't know who half the bands are and the half I do know, I don't like!

I want to be young again and enjoy the feeling of getting muddy and drunk in a field listening to bands. But I just can't bring myself to be that dirty, tired, and unhappy for three days straight.

So why not go to festivals where you like the bands?

Because they don't exist.
The festivals, not the bands.

Welcome to entering your forties.

I'd reached this conclusion about festivals by my mid-20s.

I've never been to a proper rock festival in my life. Too loud, too mediocre, horrible value for money, etc. Classical festivals are where it's at: you can still get drunk in a field, but your tent won't get trampled on, your stuff won't get stolen and you'll be able to talk to your friends without having to lip-read.

I went to a classical one at Harewood House I think.
The one near Leeds. Ecstasy, vodka and fireworks made for an interesting evening.

Sounds excellent.
My last one as an audience member was near Southampton, and I performed as part of a regatta/festival a couple of years after that.

They're having a medieval fayre at the end of the month.
Might be worth a visit.

But you'll have to listen to classical music.

Exactly...
I am mid-20s.

I do still quite like the idea of going to a festival.
It's just that it has a very, very short half-life; it's usually a matter of seconds between "Oooh, that looks potentially fun!" and "That looks like the sixth pit of hell".

Yup, that's about where I am.
My last 'proper' festival was a week after my 23rd birthday, the two I've been to since then were within easy reach of home. My reaction to the Reading lineup this year was "Ahhh, so many bands I want to see, it's gotta be done!", swiftly followed by "Nnnnnope, I stopped going to that for a reason". Great fun the first couple of times, I'd regret it by now if I hadn't done it, but it's fair to say I'm finished with the whole thing now.

Glamping FTW!

(, Tue 12 Jun 2012, 12:58, closed)
What's glamping?

(, Tue 12 Jun 2012, 13:21, closed)
Glamourous camping, I would assume

Hmmm, glamorous and camping aren't easy bedfellows, I find.
How's you Mr Macc Lad? Ticketyboo? Or not so pucker?
