The Texas School Board (led by a man who believes God created the Earth less than 10,000 years ago) is debating whether to change the curriculum so that the text books highlight areas that he believes undermines the theory of evolution such as that individual cells are far too complex to have evolved by chance.

If this goes through this could have an impact on the rest of the US as textbook publishers design their textbooks to the Texas standard then roll them out nationwide

A school board in Delaware (in the US)
tried to force the schools to teach "intelligent design" along side of evolution (and to say there are problems with evolution). It is detailed in Wikipedia (the fount of all knowledge) at:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitzmiller_v._Dover_Area_School_District

Essentially, the judge (and a very politically conservative judge at that) ruled that intelligent design is religion and not science and that it could not be taught in a science class. The members fo the school board who tried to force the teaching of this bull sh*t religion were subsequently voted off of the school board. Pat Robertson did then say that the town would feel the wrath of God but as far as I know, it hasn't been visited by a plague of locusts or any other biblical calamity.

There must be some precedent set by this court case that will have relevance to the Texas issue.

no precedent
if it's been resolved at a state level.

Same way that gay marriage in the US has been accepted in some states but not in others.

It was federal court
not state
