Lost...Trying to impress a new girlfriend, I 'borrowed' my mother's car. Dropping her off in London, I managed to lose the car keys between locking it and reaching the other side of the road. Utter humiliation followed as my mum took the train to London with the spare key...

I've done the "lost computer" one, so it's not just an urban mythI'm a sysadmin, for my sins. We have a naming scheme based on Babylonian and Mesopotamian gods. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
One of the network people rang me up and asked me where Ishtar was. I said "Oh yes, it's the SGI in the boss's office". Some time later, we discover that it wasn't. It was definitely *somewhere*, I could ping it. Took me ages to find the bastard, hidden in a corner in someone else's office. "Oh, that thing? I've no idea what it's for."
