Anyone still about?
ECHO - CHO - cho - cho ... apparently not!

I'm listening to this:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2yy141q8HQ&ob=av3el

what're you listening to?
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:09, 202 replies, latest was 15 years ago)
I'm watching Hot Fuzz.
It's excellent. I much prefer Pegg and Frost to those twats Horne and Corden.

EDIT: I fucking love that song. Electro-Shock Blues is one of my favourite albums ever, and Beautiful Freak is while not close behind, it's in the top 20.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:11, Reply)
To be honest
I don't even see how you can compare the two. Although I'm not sure about their new movie 'Paul'. I'll probably end up seeing it anyway though.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:12, Reply)
Fat guy, slightly funny looking friend?
Went into movies off the back of a successful sitcom, just that one was more successful...
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:13, Reply)
Tenuous
but I'll give you that. Corden and Horne should be doused in 50/50 piss/petrol and set alight though, whereas Simon Pegg and to a lesser extent Nick Frost I actually like and enjoy.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:16, Reply)
One of my many nicknames apparently is a pastiche of something from Gavin and Stacey.
DEAR LORD.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:18, Reply)
Christ, I'm so sorry
I actually liked Gavin and Stacey the only time I watched it, but I was absolutely pissed off my face and it was 4am, so my estimation of it then probably far exceeds what it would have been sober..
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:20, Reply)
It's "Dozzla Pamlar Gavlar", no idea what the fuck it means.
I have too many nicknames for one person :(
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:21, Reply)
You what now?
I have no idea what that means either...
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:27, Reply)
Your guess is as good as mine.
Beats K-Hole, which is what Flatmate calls me.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:28, Reply)
Pfft!
possibly, it's a bit like choosing between being punched in the face or the nuts though...
I haven't had a nickname in ages, the last one was probably my 'drinking name' for rugby.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:33, Reply)
And what might that be?

(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:34, Reply)

When signing up for the gym, my friend kept writing down "D___" as my name on the class-sheets
had to remind her that it's NOT my name, and it wouldn't correspond even slightly with the name connected to my membership.

I like most of them, though only certain people are allowed to call me certain things. Otherwise I get really confused.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:36, Reply)
It's terrible
don't rewatch when you're sober because it'll frighten you

I've just put on Joanne Shaw Taylor's new album
I got very excited when I got home and saw it had arrived in the post. Critical opinion to follow soon, but in the meantime the CD is cleverly designed to look like a miniature vinyl LP, to the extent that the normally shiny underside is black.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:20, Reply)
That's quite awesome
bet it didn't have a crow drawn on it though :P
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:21, Reply)
Haha, it didn't. How did you guess?
Sadly I don't think the delightful Ms Shaw Taylor shares my crow obsession. I'm sure she'd understand if somebody were to explain at great length why they are amazing birds.

Still, first track has been fuckin' awesome so far. If she can keep this up it might be even better than her debut...
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:23, Reply)
I'm not sure I've ever heard of her

(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:26, Reply)
There's actually a surprising paucity of good quality clips...
Still, this one should explain the hype (instrumental SRV cover):
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yyVPKJfl2E

And this is the best one I could find of my favourite song by her:

Well
perhaps not quite to the extent I suspect you do, but yes.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:45, Reply)
*sheepish*
I saw her in concert last year and she was totally amazing and leagues ahead of the other two bands that were on and after the set she walked right past me and then she walked past me again and I got very excited like a small child and my friend laughed at me...
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:48, Reply)
Haha!
I admit, I can't laugh too hard as I made a total ass of myself when I found myself face to face with the lead singer of a band I like. At least you were only giddy and not spouting drivel right in their face.
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 0:00, Reply)
My friend did suggest I should say something to her,
but I remained (vaguely) composed and asked what I could actually say to her without making a complete tit of myself. But seriously, she passed close enough that I could have grabbed and run off with her, laughing maniacally. (This is, of course, one reason why I asked said friend to come to the gig with me, to prevent such eventualities, however unlikely.)
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 0:04, Reply)
Composure is good
remaining silent but wistful a few feet away is better. I could learn from your example.
Are you coming to Tayyabs btw?
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 0:10, Reply)
Currently not. Though I've been thinking increasingly that I'll kick mysel if I don't.
Current reservations are
1. I haven't thought of a good excuse (read: white lie) to tell my friend
2. I can say with reasonable certainty that I'm going to be rather worse for wear by 6.30 that Saturday, so I'm not entirely sure that my system will welcome a massive influx of curry.

On the other hand, of course, it would be lovely to see you all again.
*chews knuckles with indecision*

At any rate, I should probably have gone to bed approximately one (very good) album ago, so remind me to resume this conversation tomorrow morning. 'night!

from that lyric. I'd quite like one too.

I love how in the solo she goes obviously mental and starts smashing shit up.
Do you know Oasis? Best song about rape and abortion ever.

I'm not as big a fan of her solo stuff
this video is quite mental though.

(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:45, Reply)
Those are my 2 faves of her solo work

(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:50, Reply)
I prefer Oasis to those two,
but feel that the "Who needs love..." section is incredibly true, if you replace Law and Order with CSI.
(, Thu 13 Jan 2011, 23:53, Reply)
Guitar Hero has some awesome power to it
But I think it's about people who play too many computer games...like me...

REALLY? You think?!
I guess it makes it more obvious when you listen to Strength Through Music before... The videos lead on from each other.

But American Gods shits on absolutely everything ever. My copy's fallen apart :(

Smoke and Mirrors, or Fragile Things?
I think it's Fragile Things that has the kick-ass HP Lovecraft/Sherlock Holmes crossover, but Smoke and Mirrors that has an American tourist ending up in Innsmouth and getting hammered on Shoggoth's Old Peculiar.

So I think your's has the American Gods follow-up novella
which if you know your Norse pantheon, you should realise after reading that Shadow should stay the fuck away from mistletoe.
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 0:14, Reply)
It does, but I haven't got to it yet
I'm a bit shaky on my Norse pantheon, but I'll do some wiki-ing before starting it so that i'm refreshed.
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 0:15, Reply)
You find out Shadow's first name.
Put that into Wiki when you're done. I think the Norns say something about mistletoe while he's on the tree, though, so it's just explicitly saying something that if you're Genre Savvy you'll have worked out. A bit like the Mr Wednesday thing.

I kicked myself for about 10 minutes over the Low Key thing...
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 0:18, Reply)
I twigged the Wednesday and Low Key thing fairly early on
Though forgot about the latter because he's not mentioned (that I recall) for a large chunk of the book.

Just trying to think of a comic
that had similarities in common with 'Lucifer' by Neil Gaiman but more of a focus on old Norse gods, and with Lucifer having bright orange hair. Definitely something about Michael being freed from a prison of some kind

Loki

I need to buy the rest of the Sandman, I think I have up to volume 7. Read it all, though. Cried like a baby, and of course got angry with Lyta for causing the whole kerfuffle. They're thinking of making it into a TV series... EEEEEEE

Well I don't know the Sandman very well
only read a few volumes of it, but Supernatural is fantastic

I love the way all the characters connect
And I love Death. Death is fantastic.

They did a reunion tour
but thus far only american dates I'm afraid. I've met her (very briefly) and she was lovely.

In Manchester she thanked everyone for coming to see them even though Morrisey was playing the same night
and then did I Know It's Over.
Then our coach broke down and I had to try and unite the Dresden Dolls/Morrissey/Take That fans, all trying to get back to Liverpool and stuck at a Manchester crossroads.

I love that
The song, that is... saw them play it live supporting NIN many years ago, and it's the one song of theirs that i remember.

The self titled album and Yes, Virginia are pretty damn good
Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner is the only one really to bother on No, Virginia. And maybe Night Reconaissance.

This
I borrowed No, Virginia and was very underwhelmed.

I was like that in my teens and twenties. If I wasn't fainting I was howling.
It's only occasional now and nowhere NEAR as bad. I think the pill has helped too.

god that sounds awful
i've never had cramps in my life, they sound horrendous. one of my friends got so irritated with that statement that she hissed "you're not a real woman". that hurt too!

I don't think it's natural or womanly for one's uterus to try and turn itself inside out each month
or to pass out because, well, you know.
So tell her to can it.
I really should go to sleep.

Maybe I'm excited about seeing the bf too, but mainly I reckon it's messed-up body clock.

Stick on the most boring thing you can find
