I'm trying
but science isn't like that, I can't just magically miracle something out of my arse. I realised today that I didn't do something I said I'd do this week so I'm going to have to do some serious arse licking on Monday and it's really stressing me out.

Why not make 2011 the year of sorting out your work life and forget about everything else.

Barring a tendency to be a bit lazy
before the oops happened there was nothing wrong with my work life. But now I feel incredibly on edge and like I'm constantly playing catch-up. I'll work through it; I have no choice, and logically I know the likelihood of them firing me 8 months before the end of my contract is minimal. But it's stressing me out regardless.
I'm working harder to make sure my projects are complete before the end of september, when my contract finishes. If I don't get a PhD I doubt I'll stay, which means lots of job applications and the like so 2011 is going to be a year of very work-related stuff anyway.

I see.
Then I suggest you go out and get pissed a lot : )

Nobody to go with :(
I plan to bash a lot this year though.

yay
I'm going to try and get to another one, too. Bashes are for winners

blame it on being busy with other things
or tell them you have no idea what they're talking about, but you'll do it right away
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:00, Reply)
i regularly do this
sometimes if you ignore things for long enough you don't have to do them
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:02, Reply)
I'm a regular "no, you didn't ask me to do that, I don't know what you're talking about:"

(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:04, Reply)
I do this sometimes
I'm not sure what I'll do on Monday, probably just say that I was busy and I'm doing it. Excuses excuses :(
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:07, Reply)
can you go in early? maybe stay late?
honestly, if it were me, I'd stay late and do it off the clock
not suggesting you do this, just saying it'd be what I would do to get it done
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:09, Reply)
I do go in early
and stay late when it's required. I imagine I will be doing this more in the next few months.

I've decided to put more effort into my work.
I get what needs to be done finished but I could put myself out a bit and organise stuff better etc.
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:14, Reply)
Well, that's just it
generally I get the work done, so there's no real cause for my boss to be pissed off, but I'm not as organised as I could be, and I should be further on in my project than I am.

I'm also hoping that if I look to be working harder then my dad won't whinge when I'm taking time off.
And I feel a bit guilty for not pulling my weight now and then,
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:20, Reply)
You're entitled to time off
by law. Your dad has no right to whinge if you get all your work done before you go away.
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:24, Reply)
I know : )
He just likes whinging.
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:26, Reply)
Dead relative?
Very distraught etc etc
(, Fri 14 Jan 2011, 20:10, Reply)
I'll think of something
the ridiculous thing is, is that I have had quite a busy week, but because I haven't done what I said I'd do whilst my boss was away, it's going to look like I've slacked off mightily when I haven't.
