Worryingly
HP is actually above-par to most 'adult' fantasty. Terry Brooks for example is far more poorly written.

Oh god, this
The Shannara series was such a disappointment.

I have all of Terry Brooks books
some of them are a little weak, but over all I've enjoyed them all. I'm reading the new one 'Bearers of the Black Staff' and very much enjoying it.
Though my favourite all time story was written by Terry Goodkind, Sword of Truth series. Oh man I loved that story.

George RR Martin
is gonna get a kicking from me if he doesn't continue the song of ice and fire soon. There is a series started sometime this year, I think, though

Not read any of those books.
My Mum is into the same genre, so we buy different authors and borrow each other books. Saves on pennies.

it's an incredible series
but the last one came out about 5 years ago. I recommend waiting until he's written a couple more and read them in a row. They are full of conniving and nastiness and double crossing, which probably means if they are read together you can get more from them. I'm going to have to acquire all the old ones when/if the new one is done since I borrowed most of the others

i don't read that
I'm quite picky - the very traditional type (you know quests and the like) have to be pretty good to hold my attention. I couldn't stand the Feist one I read.

The 'new' fantasy stuff (China Meiville, Campbell, etc.) largely rules. I wish steampunk writers were better, though

I haven't read any in a fair bit
apart from Robin Hobb

I *heart* Robin Hobb.
Santa brought me three more books by her this Christmas.

She's amazing
the only author I've ever bothered to go and get a book signed by (Fool's Fate when I was 14)

It's that trilogy I got for Christmas.
I also have Brent Weeks new book, Peter Brent 2 books and Terry Brooks new book to read.
I should be ok until about Easter for reading material.

You'll really enjoy it :)
She keeps the quality up (the Soldier's Son books were good but not as good.)
