Starting a new thread because I just got in and that one's sprawling
Those with insomnia, in here now.
Q: Exes. Do you have good relations with any, or do you prefer to sever all ties?
Alt Q: Which animal would you most like to punch?

Evening Labs.
My relationship with my ex is a load of wank. Frankly, I wouldn't care if I ever spoke to him again but he still lives locally and drinks in my pub and wants to be my friend, so I have to be civil.

Alt: Small dogs annoy the living shit out if me even more than children, so them.

Morning
Just had an evening at a mates house with my ex and a few friends, and they commented that it's abnormal that Em and I are still good friends. I've had two long term (longer than a month) relationships, and I'm good friends with both, and apparently this is weird.

I hate small yappy dogs with a passion!
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:11, Reply)
There are a few people that I went out with for short periods, years ago
That I'm still good friends with. However, Dom and I were together for over 5 years and I still resent him a lit, and every time I see him I hate myself for not leaving him earlier.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:14, Reply)
Yeah, I can see why you'd not want to be around him then
I imagine if my relationships had ended because of cheating or something equally nasty, then I wouldn't want to know them.

Has everyone else gone to bed?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:16, Reply)
Not quite
Been out for ~7 mile bike ride. Yes, it was cold.

Animal... I think you've got a third for the small yappy dog camp.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:18, Reply)
Oh hey Mat.
How's the site coming on?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:21, Reply)
Not so bad
I'm wanting to get out soon and take a few more photos. I've got plans for a few "how to" style videos (plus the one I made on jumping ages ago) but it's finding time during the day when I'm not busy that's the problem. I might get some stuff done on Saturday.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:24, Reply)
Brilliant.
You're a student, aren't you?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:25, Reply)
Yep
Thinking of setting up a kite society at uni for several reasons - paying (though discounted) work for me, fun, and grants to buy more kites for "club use".
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:27, Reply)
That does sound like a plan.
Do you know lots of people there who are interested in it?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:29, Reply)
I find a good proportion of people are
Certainly if they think they can get free lessons. I've decided to take a somewhat mercenary approach now I've finally had the insurance come through - I'll teach the people I promised lessons to before for free, but that's an end of that, even for my friends. I think I can justifiably say that I should get something for doing quite a difficult job, even if it's not full scale pay.

Unless they're really hot...

P.S. The less glamourous side of the sport...
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:36, Reply)
To be fair, I manage to do that a lot without a kite.
Sounds like you've got yourself quite the plan! I'm jealous, I wish I was so motivated.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:41, Reply)
Motivated?
"Poor" would be a better description. I'm looking for a bit of cash up until June, at which point I want to head down to Cornwall and start teaching full time*, either with an established school or on my own.

*Until September, when I have to come back here again for my final year.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:51, Reply)
Yes, but I'm poor too.
There's no reason for it other than sheer laziness on my part, unfortunately.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:55, Reply)
A 7 mile ride at this time?
And I thought my bike into work this morning was cold (it was though).

I think I'd like to punch a dolphin, or a bear. No, wait, definitely a bear.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:21, Reply)
You will have to do more training.
Why a bear though?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:24, Reply)
Just to say that I'd punched a bear
Also, I did a top 50 list of Things I Want To Do Before I'm Eaten By Bears, and one of them was to learn to fight bears.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:29, Reply)
If you learn how to fight them, how would they eat you?

(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:30, Reply)
I don't WANT to be eaten by them
Just want to accomplish what I can and fend off the tricksy beasts for as long as possible.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:32, Reply)
I don't understand why you hate bears so much.

(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:33, Reply)
You mean apart from because they're going to eat me?
They can be smug. I don't like smug animals.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:35, Reply)
While I abhor smugness in animals
I think there must be some smugger than the bear.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:39, Reply)
Certainly, but I'd punch them too

(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:41, Reply)
I'm still sticking to my original answer of small dogs.

I'm in Edinburgh
The roads are lovely and quiet at this time. I almost never cycle in the daytime, because I'm always transporting my flatmates to and from uni (we share courses but I have a car). I try to get out as often as I can in the evenings for a bit of exercise.

Edit: That said, I normally end up in the union bar, though only drinking coke. A few pints of sugary drinks are balanced out by the mile-long hill climb I do on leaving campus.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:26, Reply)
I remember Edinburgh being rather hilly
So I don't envy you there. That said, it must be beautiful to cycle around at night.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:30, Reply)
It's pretty good
I can actually just use the union canal towpath to get back to my flat, but you don't get much benefit or satisfaction from cycling two and a half miles on the flat. With the mile hill climb route, I half kill myself on the way up but I get three and a half miles of lovely cruisy downhill bits.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:33, Reply)
My route to work is half flat (with traffic)
Then a bit up and down. It's only 1.7 miles in total one direction, so when the weather's good I'll cycle down the nearby country track and do an additional 6 miles.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:37, Reply)
Something similar for me
Over last summer, I was doing a minimum 26 mile round trip most days. That was back home though, where there is far less traffic and the gaps between towns are bigger.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:39, Reply)
Impressive!
In the summer I'd cycle 18 miles round trip to see my folks at the weekend. This year I hope to cycle a little further afield, but my hybrid's not the best for too long a distance.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:41, Reply)
I don't have a wonderful bike
I'm riding this or something very similar at the moment. One or two mods - different pedals with toe clips, two quick release wheels and panniers. I'd like a racing bike, but I'd just end up putting panniers on it and kind of defeating the object of an ultralight bike in the first place.

That said, I have some friends with racing bikes, and they are wonderful for hill climbing.

One of my (few) ex's
Replied 'piss off' when I text her a while back. Fair enough I thought.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:26, Reply)
Was it a drunken booty call text
Or does she have good cause to hate you?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:28, Reply)
It was a general text in the middle of the day.
I only text her because I discovered she's now unbelievably fit. Wish she looked like she does now when we were seeing each other. Shallow, me?

We went out for a while and then I said I didn't want to see her any more, nothing too horrific.
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:31, Reply)
Haha
How long was the gap between dumping and texting?
(, Wed 19 Jan 2011, 1:35, Reply)
About six inches

Trying to think.
Maybe six to eight months? She's a pop star as well, a shit unsigned one mind.

I have an ex who is friends but we never see each other as she lives in America
An Ex and we are friends but we never see each other as she lives in Surrey and I am in Cornwall.

An Ex and we are friends but we never see each other because she lives in oxford

An Ex and she ignores me on the street and tells people we broke up because I raped her every night. The truth is We never once had sex in a year of going out and we broke up because she cheated on me with some guy she met on the web.

I have a wife and we are friends but only just.
