i hate shopping
I get there and have no idea what I want, buy the wrong things, leave and then realise that brocolli and muffins is not a proper meal

Have you considered writing a list before you go?

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:48, Reply)
yeah
but I'm not much better at deciding before I go

but w00t I have eggs, omlette and oven chips it is

These are lovely

But don't use too much oil, just turn them on a regular basis to ensure they get coated.

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:01, Reply)
Plunging something into boiling water for a very short time

like going in a jacuzzi?

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:05, Reply)
Yes!

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:06, Reply)
But then you've got to jump into an ice bath.

chuck them in boiling water. Wait.
remove, chuck them in freezing water. FOr chips, it's to partially cook them. Usually it's to get salt out or turn stuff whiter.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:04, Reply)
Par boil them, then put them in cold water.

dirty easy delicious meal
packet of flavoured microwave rice (uncle bens or similar).

stir in grated cheese, cashew nuts/walnuts, red and green jalapenos, pesto. top with black pepper.

takes 2 minutes 30 seconds to prepare, tastes delicious. of course if you have other fresh vegetables and can be arsed to chop them, this improves both the taste and the healthiness. but it no longer takes 2 mins, 30 seconds to get dinner down your fat throat!
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:48, Reply)
this will now be added to my repetoire

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:50, Reply)
it's great
i have it far far more often than i should!

if you want to be healthy, buy the proper wholegrain rice with all the sticky husks still on it, stir in loads of veg and a bit of feta cheese or salmon. it's nice but then it's a proper meal, not dirty comfort food!
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:52, Reply)
to me, that first one sounds like proper food
it has vegetables and everything
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:53, Reply)
i could do with a big steaming bowl of it right now
i won't be eating til about 9, and we are hitting the bar at 7. doom.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:54, Reply)
uh oh
I'm sure NOTHING will go wrong
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:55, Reply)
esp as i had no lunch

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:56, Reply)
well whatever doesn't kill you
makes a good anecdote
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:57, Reply)
Can you have an apple or snack on some grapes before you go out?

(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:58, Reply)
nope
my throat hurts.

will anaesthetise it with vodka, that'll fix it.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:59, Reply)
Well have vodka and orange, rather than vodka and diet-coke.
That'll make all the difference.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:00, Reply)
I'm really not a fan of those Uncle Ben microwave rice packets.
They taste a bit too processed (granted, I've only tried the Golden Vegetable one).

What ones do you recommend?
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:50, Reply)
i like the other breed, which name irritatingly escapes my soggy brain
they do a nice yoghurt, cumin and chickpea flavour as well as a roasted courgette and pepper one.

for the uncle ben's, i like the spicy microwave ones.

it's not the best rice in the world, but totally worth it for the ease - rice is such a pain in the gunt to cook, it really is.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:53, Reply)
Cooking rice well is tricky.
If you remember the name of the 'other breed' can you post it?
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 17:59, Reply)
tilda
they also do one which is pinto bean and chilli... awesome!
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:02, Reply)
I will investigate.
I've bought their rice before, but not rice that you just put in the microwave.
(, Wed 23 Feb 2011, 18:06, Reply)
This is why I don't think living by yourself is healthy, it's too hard to decide what to cook, too many options.
I mean, like ASDA, they have like 5 brands of microwave rice, all with 5 flavours. There's just no need for that much choice.

Living by yourself is BOSS
