Rape, abortion = OK.
Condoms = bad.
Does not compute.

except for the ones priests chuck up nuns, because they're not supposed to be boning.

it's in Africa, so celibacy means you don't get married, but are free to rape whomever you want, particularly nuns or young girls.

Which bit aren't you getting, heathen!

I don't think you can put it down to ignorance it's deliberate systematic abuse, the abuser will either justify it to themselves and feel no guilt, or feel a lot of guilt but not be able to stop.

that it happens and yet they still preach catholic morals etc.

couldn't certain branches of the Catholic Church be 'institutionally rapey and kid-molestery'?

'...a vicar in one African diocese had talked "quite openly" about sex, saying that "celibacy in the African context means a priest does not get married, but does not mean he does not have children."'
He seems to think it's perfectly ok. The whole thing is fucking disgusting, anybody who goes round fucking nuns or pre-teens or babies so as not to get HIV deserves to have their cock ripped off quite frankly, and acid poured in the hole.
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:33, Reply)
And yes that is disgusting but thinking that the church is pro rape is a massive leap from what's actually in this article.
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:37, Reply)
Cardinal Ratzinger hmself ignored pleas to deal with abuse. So it does make you wonder what the unofficial concensus might be.
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:42, Reply)
I'm not saying the church is pro rape, per se. I'm saying in areas that this is happening, the local priests obviously think it's ok to force nuns to have sex with them. So yes, I guess in some of those cases the nun is consenting, in return for favours such as help with studies or placements etc, but the very fact that Catholic fucking priests think this is an okay thing to do is repulsive.

Bella said "Rape, abortion = OK."
I said, don't be stupid
You spoke to me like it was the continuation of that conversation but looks like you wanted to start a seperate conversation.
I'm not dissagreeing with anything apart from what bella said at first.

does this tie in with the point about women in third world countries being more conditioned to subservience to men?
this is perhaps even more at the heart of the problem, and you don't need to be catholic to do it either... burkha anybody? or how about having your thumbs cut off for wearing nail varnish?? or maybe a nice rape followed by a cheerful stoning for daring to have sex outside marriage...
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:41, Reply)
I think what we've learnt here today is that globally-marketed gods make you rapey.

find me an example of a NUN raping or molesting children or priests...
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:51, Reply)
Obviously, proportionately far less than men, so they're still more rapey than us.
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:53, Reply)
but not in a sexual context. the nuns at my primary school (i was only there for a year) were all far too old and papery to molest anyone!
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:55, Reply)
but I know people who were scared of nuns for more than just violence.
I must add, I'm not talking about myself!
(, Fri 25 Feb 2011, 11:57, Reply)
it is not surprising that it drives these people a bit insane

It seems to be that a shagging clergyman is a happy clergyman, so why make them all bitter and tortured and repressed, when maybe if they'd been able to get their rocks off they'd have been pillars of the community. My Nana says this all the time, because we had a boss priest but he ended up leaving to marry a nun. Then we lost a good community leader and the nanas were sad.
