Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that.
What are his hobbies and interests?

he's a science nerd
who likes some similar music to me and is a gamer (but it's GW crap)

Perhaps I should start messaging some other guys, too. You know, one of them's got to be blind/desperate/bored enough to be interested

What is 'GW crap?'
Maybe, rather than going after a type, you should just be yourself and see who writes to you, rather than you writing to them?

GW = games workshop
I tend to only get messages from guys in north africa. Or people I don't really want to talk to (usually they seem dull in their profile, or I'm shallow and they're not cute)

Gaddafi all up in your inbox

he's one hot crazy dude

(, Fri 4 Mar 2011, 23:44, Reply)
Think of the tracksuits he'd be able to provide you with.
'Ee is da fashion master!
(, Fri 4 Mar 2011, 23:45, Reply)
he's got a stupendous wardrobe and a nifty golf cart
that's bringing a lot to the table in any relationship.
(, Fri 4 Mar 2011, 23:46, Reply)
I've never stepped foot in a Games Workshop.
Would North Africa be that bad? Think of the holiday and camel owning potential.

I think you should be less picky (about the people), as some people can't write. Look at me, I'm actually more dull in real life than I am here.

*Nods wisely*

but some of them use 'lol'
i really can't get down with that shit

Be resonable Crunchy.
Yes, there are lots of words that could be used, but IF and it's only an if, they are concerned that the person they are writing to are a bit 'simple', they might feel the need to explain what they're saying, rather than hoping you can read between the lines.
(, Fri 4 Mar 2011, 23:50, Reply)
are you calling me thick?
lol

AICMFP
No, you know what I mean, the chances are, in real life, you'd know they were joking (if indeed what they're saying is funny).

I just think you should give them a break in the initial exchanges, just so you can identify when and where they're joking, so you can establish common ground.

Or is that unresonable?
(, Fri 4 Mar 2011, 23:55, Reply)
nah, it's the one's who use it all the time that are a problem
to be fair, it's not like there are many, I'm not exactly fending them off with a shitty stick
(, Fri 4 Mar 2011, 23:58, Reply)
Do you mention LARPing in your profile?

(, Sat 5 Mar 2011, 0:02, Reply)
nope

(, Sat 5 Mar 2011, 0:03, Reply)
What do you mention?

(, Sat 5 Mar 2011, 0:05, Reply)
That I like making stuff, I play instruments
read sci fi and teach photography.
(, Sat 5 Mar 2011, 0:07, Reply)
Lose the Sci-fi stuff!
And my 'experience' of drinking with teachers.... Most of them try and talk to their mates like the talk to their students.
(, Sat 5 Mar 2011, 0:11, Reply)
so your recommendation
is to pretend to be someone else?
(, Sat 5 Mar 2011, 0:13, Reply)
No.
I'm saying let them come to you.
