Can you suggest where i might go to avoid the "Playa dos Ingles" sorts of places?

if you still want a beach and some people who understand English. If you want proper Tenerife stuff, in the mountain and all Spanish speaking, go to La Orotava. It's a bit cold there, but very nice.
