You shouldn't water it
you should immerse it entirely in water until it stops bubbling, then leave it out for a few days. Then repeat.

Are you keeping it somewhere too hot?
I once had a really nice umbrella plant that just kept going brown and losing leaves, no matter how much I tended to iut.

Turns out plants don't like sitting on top of televisions. Who knew?

Mum had this problem with her hydrangeas.
stick some water storing crystals into the soil, might help.
edit - they live best if there's a tray of water beneath them.
