I think it's for the dirt poor, my mom eats them sometimes but I think it's because she's used to the taste.
She was raised on them. Because her family was dirt poor.

I wish I'd not mentioned them
Partially because of the revoltingness of grits, but mainly because I can't have an Amtrak breakfast this year and have the option of saying no to grits.
