I do believe the average intelligence round here is much higher than normal.
I also believe that some people have too high expectations as to the grammatical standards of the average adolescent Facebook user.

being able to use proper grammar is not too high an expectation.
As with all things though, the pedantry is a way to alleviate the boredom. You are never going to not make mistakes, and the abuse is never going to stop, so there is no point in questioning it.

Minimum standards of grammar are required. Largely correct spelling goes uncommented on.

You led us to believe we should expect a high standard of your posts
with your claim that your vocabulary is more expansive than the average British person's vocabulary.

I really, really love this post.

(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:29, Reply)
Boasted, in fact.
Then claimed high intelligence and told us all how great his grades were.

It's fair enough to say that people ought to hold low expectations of him and it's fair enough to be proud of your achievements. Expecting both is being a twat.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:21, Reply)
In fairness to the lad
Based on what he told me of his predicted grades he's likely been living in something of a bubble of praise from teachers and parents, and would therefore be unused to being upbraided by bitter cunts like us.

Your last point is beautifully put, mind.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:24, Reply)
It really is.
Who thought the old log-freezer had it in him?

I hide my light under an extraordinarily dense bushel.

So you not only enjoy space docking but also the stench of burning pubes
You are a whole new level of wrong
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:40, Reply)
If loving it is wrong
Baby, I don't wanna be right.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:44, Reply)
So Is the vocabulary of almost every user on here.
I'd suppose the average person doesn't even come close to most of us.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:23, Reply)
it's frightfully gauche to keep banging on about it

(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:24, Reply)
That's the sort of attitude we like to see.

(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:25, Reply)
Most of us wouldn't use the same word twice in one sentence
Especially if the offending word was intended to underline a point.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:25, Reply)
Fucking hell!
You've got a lot to learn about people.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:26, Reply)
He's a baby! He's a baby!

(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:27, Reply)
Why is that then?
Are 16 year olds not expected to be able to spell correctly?
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:22, Reply)
Given that even the most special of special needs children achieve a minimum of 45 A******* GSCEs and a Master's by the age of 12,
it's all a little odd, is it not?
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:26, Reply)
Indeed it is sir
My kids will be able to spell correctly
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:27, Reply)
Monty,
That's because they've made it easier.

And then they turn up on my degree programme expecting to be spoonfed,
saying things like "do we have to learn this, is it on the exam?", and claiming they've paid for their IIi.

It's enough to make me strike.
(, Fri 17 Jun 2011, 10:30, Reply)
Thinking for yourself isn't on the curriculum anymore.
