Damien Hirst's earlier work is pretty damned good- the colour maps and so forth.
But the cow, sheep etc? Clearly taking the piss. And don't get me started on Tracey Emin...

Incidentally, I just found this and couldn't help but laugh a little:

Tracey Emin's work is rather like marmite as far as liking it is concerned
but within art history and contemporary culture she's an amazing artist.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:11, Reply)
she's a fucking twat though

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:12, Reply)
In what way?

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:12, Reply)
because of her personality

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:21, Reply)
... and ... ?
Christ ... this is like getting a mongoloid to choose a flavour of fucking ice cream.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:29, Reply)
I've met her and agree wholeheartedly

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:13, Reply)
I entirely agree
however, she does have huge boobs.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:27, Reply)
Go on then ... get started on Tracy Emin.
I saw a retrospective of her work in Amsterdam about ten years ago and it was really fucking excellent.

Also, it's Damien Hirst (that's "Hirst"), and the colour maps came after the preserved animals.

edit: you fucking idiot ... sorry ... how very remiss of me
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:11, Reply)
She's shit.
Alarmingly good tits for a woman with such a repellent face, though.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:13, Reply)
I like the way you have avoided any material criticism on her technique, background or meaning and instead rendered your appreciation down to a single syllable profanity.
A more naive person might think this means you have nothing to actually say about her or her work.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:16, Reply)
I find Monty's opinion to be a work of art in itself
its a post modern ironic opinion and will win the turner prize this year.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:18, Reply)
She's a common, drunken, repulsive old tart.
Her spasticated beakering elicits nothing but sympathy from me. I think she should be in a fucking home.

PS Her background is 'scum from Kent', and the grotty old hag revels in it instead of being ashamed as she should be.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:24, Reply)
Plus she has excellent tits.

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:28, Reply)
She looks like a definite space-docking fan. You can just tell.

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:30, Reply)
Sorry Monty, she's far too ugly for me to let
one of my works of arts anywhere near her Constable's hayrick.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:32, Reply)
Oi!
My Dad's from Kent, be nice.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:29, Reply)
Half my daughter's family are.
Mind you, they are repulsive oiks.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:33, Reply)
So it's just the same tired snobbery and sexism that's behind most criticism of her then?
Fair enough.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:30, Reply)
I think her dad's foreign as well.

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:31, Reply)
Says the guy calling someone pig thick because of their opinion on a single piece of art

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:32, Reply)
Yes.
I called you thick on the basis of you expressing a thick opinion.

The only thing I have to go on is text. When the content of the text is thick, the only conclusion I can draw is that the writer of the text is thick.

What bearing does that have on what I said?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:39, Reply)
Thats fine
You are quite entitled to make sweeping statements about me without knowing anything about me. Just the same as I am entitled to have reactionary thoughts about a piece of art.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 11:15, Reply)
Ohhh. Emmmm. Geeee!
Can this be real? Can I actually be AGREEING with Dr. Shambolic?!!

;-)
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:14, Reply)
I'm sure we've agreed before.
I can call you a dog bummer if it's making you feel uncomfortable?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:16, Reply)
That's better

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:18, Reply)
I'm referring to a couple of her works that stand out in my eye
Namely the unmade bed and the tent thing with the names of all the people she claimed to have slept with.

Is this art?

Then again, the broader question for me is are these pieces put together to make us question the notion of what is art, or are they just shit?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:28, Reply)
So you've not actually seen any of her work and have plucked your opinion out of tabloids.
Fair play.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:31, Reply)
Actually, no.
I just don't like her work as it doesn't appeal to me, and those are the first two memorable ones for me. The language used to describe some of her works is incredibly annoying to me personally as well, and makes me want to smash my monitor.

The same goes for Eva Rothschild. Yes, some of her art is stark, and brutal.

One of her sculptures (Hot Touch) also happens to look like a giant climbing frame.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:35, Reply)
Right. So where and when did you see "the tent thing"?
And how did you manage to so completely misunderstand what it was?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:37, Reply)
Oh I'm sorry, I don't have a 100% perfect memory, nor can I be arsed to put in research for what passes for idle chat on the internet.
Fuck off and drown in a ditch, you tedious spastic.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:41, Reply)
OK. So you never saw it.
There's no need to get defensive. You've made a bit of a tit of yourself on the internet. It's not the end of the world.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:45, Reply)
Never will now.
I understand the point of it, I understand what she was trying to do. Do I like it? No.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:47, Reply)
EVERYBODY EVERYWHERE HAS TO LOVE TRACY EMIN'S ARTWORK BECAUSE SHAMBLES ONCE SAW SOME STUFF THAT SHE DONE AND THOUGHT IT WAS ALRIGHT.
Christ all mighty, I thought you were cleverer than to diss someone's _opinion_ on something like 'art'.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:30, Reply)
He didn't express an opinion.
He said "don't get me started".
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:40, Reply)
read carefully.
He's not slagging their opinion as much as generally attacking slightly lazy sterotypes.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:40, Reply)
I suppose it's deeply shallow that the biggest problem I have with Tracey Emin is that she's fuck-ugly

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:13, Reply)
Is she uglier than your girlfriend?
Only I heard a rumour that your girlfriend is a pigfucker's worst nightmare.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:14, Reply)
I heard a rumour that you're a troll to be ignored at all costs
Although your attempted seduction of FreeFair the other night did make me laugh, points for that.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:24, Reply)
Good ignoring there

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:28, Reply)
Nobody on this fucking place knows what the word "troll" means.
You might as well listen to their rumours about a breakthrough in particle physics.

Does that mean your bird is a complete fucking fright?
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:28, Reply)
Actually, she's pretty damned fit.
I would, for what it is worth.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:29, Reply)
Yeah ... but most of the people on here think McDonald's is a treat.
Pardon me if I don't take your tweenage lust as much of a recommendation.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:33, Reply)
McDonald's, in all fairness, is bloody tasty.
It also has the unfortunate side effect of making me fart. A lot.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:37, Reply)
You horrible pleb.
Fuck off to ITV3
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:43, Reply)
The meaning of troll has changed a lot.
I remember when all this were fields, etc.

Trolls didn't come back.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:30, Reply)
She's far to hot for Darth
Much like my Missus is far too hot for an ugly fucker like me. I know what Troll means too, its one of them things what jump up at the Billy Goats Gruff innit.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:31, Reply)
She's not very attractive

(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:32, Reply)
Ah well.
It's nice that he's found somebody. It elevates him above most of the couch-frotters here.
(, Wed 13 Jul 2011, 10:35, Reply)
I think all editors are circling the wagons at the moment.
