A trip to the British Museum will confirm that Phidias knew his stuff, a trip down the road to the Tate modern will confirm that the majority of the content is fucking crap

Phidias kept to the rules of the classical period
Tate Modern is full of 20th century art which, if properly examined proves to be mostly rather excellent.
It is possible to like or at the very least, appreciate both periods.

The Tate Modern was great when I went with Noel in January.
Loved it.

No. That was the best that performance art of the 70s could offer
Apart from the blokes pissing in each other's mouths.

Okay, strictly speaking, Phidias made a new set of rules
as he shifted Greek art from the archaic period which was stylised and more concerned with religion and ritual to the high classical period which, while stylised, is more realistic. Still a set of very strict rules though - no ugly people, for example.
And all the blokes were busting arseholes then. That was their culture.

Question- how do you know all this?
More importantly, what prompted you to find out?

Yeah. The dirty bastard and his interest in things.
Why can't he just play computer games and eat burgers like a normal person?

The sexual mores of Ancient Greece?
A pretty niche interest, but if it floats his trireme, good for him.
