Best of luck. depends what you think is cool I guess you could get an old racer maybe but they are not the best to learn on. Maybe the department store bike is for you, but the built quality will be poor verging on dangerous.

If so, you are probably OK, it looks too simple to have much go wrong and if the brakes fail you can stop with your feet. It's a toy more than a bike, but you want to play more than travel, so don't let that put you off.

This isn't srs bznss biking. It's faffing about the neighborhood, maybe training my dog to run along side it.
Ride around town and beat up kids. That sort of thing.

if the BMX floats you boat then get it, it's about enjoyment at the end of the day. Might be worth trying something that size first if you can borrow a friends, just so you know if you'll be comfortable.
