Britpop?
Shit pop. It was fucking awful. I had a fantastic time in 1994 and it had nothing whatsoever to do with student singalong indie wankers.

I wasn't strictly speaking about the music.
I mean surely there was fun to be had in pubs and clubs at the time? Although I'm shocked to hear this is how you feel.

Hip hop was excellent - there was a strong old skool scene, lots of B-boy crews were emerging.
There were some excellent clubs too. I get my years mixed up but there were some great techno and jungle nights and then there was the shit we were up to which became 'big beat'.

It thoroughly depresses me there isn't any sort of hip hop scene/clubs to go to now.
There's one place in Newcastle on a Saturday where the DJ will play stuff if I ask him but that's about it.

It went horribly wrong.

I imagine they all ended up as places where you'd get a cap in yo' ass for shaking someone's hand the wrong way.

Because that long haired wanker blew his brains out?
