I decided to reread before I read the new one or get round to watching the series. I realised it was 11 years ago I read this one. Weirdly nostalgic

it's an odd split between nostalgia for the time I read it
and nostalgia for the characters in the book

Best thing I've read lately is that one about living safely in a science fictional universe
Raw Shark Texts has been out a few years but it's ace. Apparently The Wind-Up Girl is amazing (next on my list), that last Iain M Banks one.

Oh and if you like slightly odd scifi/fantasy things try Cordwainer Smith. I don't know why I hadn't before
