Home-made chicken and peppers vindaloo, NAAAH NAAAH!
I don't do weekly shops, I work just around the corner from Waitrose so I tend to go most days after work and pick up what I need. This may be my downfall, but I rarely have a lot of unused crap piled up in my cupboards.

Did you make the vindaloo sauce yourself? There's loads of vinegar in it, right?
I understand the 'vin' in vindaloo is vinegar, also that it's not hot by definition, merely a little sour. The 'fuckloads of chilli' convention is peculiar to Britian.

Do you mean 'particular'?

My understanding is that it is a bilingual port-manteau word...
Viande = meat
Aloo = potato
It is a Goan dish created as fusion between local cuisine and that of Portuguese settlers in Goa. The fuckloads of chillis, I think, were to the Portuguese taste.
Someone could look this up and prove me wrong though...

Probably from the Portuguese vin d’alho (“wine and garlic sauce”),
Sorry. Portuguese was right though.
