and also "I mostly eat just vegetables, but sometimes fish, except I dislike most seafood and it certain special circumstances am OK with meat, but I still wouldn't choose it" is a fucking mouthful.

Mainly because of a running argument with a girl I used to know on the UEA Ballroom team, who seemed to think that being vegetarian made her better than anyone else and even upbraided me for daring to not rescind my carnivore status despite rarely eating meat. Then it turned out that she ate fish, but still considered herself a morally superior veggie. Grr.

I bet I could start a thread that would put you in a minority of one, however as I believe the majority is most often wrong, I suppose I should respect your wrong and perverted views.

Amirite?

This is my view, the death of animals bother's me very little but the mistreatment does somewhat. No excuse to be cuntish about it though. it's also that we live in a fairly binary world, so it's easier to have the Vegetarian label even when (as in my case) you eat fish and very occasionally meat. although it's a plus that pescatarian is gaining recognition, but leaves me explaining that I just do not like most seafood, unless it's cooked by Gonz, or in breadcrumbs.

If anything, farming is the more sustainable choice.

I won't eat cod or tuna unless I know it's been sustainably sourced

You're really only safe with the ones you've never heard of.

Do not assume that because I am a vegetarian* I am a hippy, or indeed a nice person.
*see previous disclaimers and conditions etc.

To clarify: I do not give a flying fuck about animals dying (even to the extent that they become extinct) But I do not wish them to suffer needless pain/discomfort during their lifetimes. In line with this, I generally eat vegetables, sometimes fish, and very, very occasionally (so far once every 2.5 years) ethically sourced meat.
If you are bothered by over fishing I suggest you stop eating fish.
My eating habits are in line with my beliefs, and I have no more interest in pushing them on others than I have in others pushing theirs on me.

impose certain things on you and are judgemental - if you are a ____ then you must do ____. especially when they are not of that group.
Wow, that was badly explained

I appreciate there are levels of dedication; Ms Foxtrot won't wear or buy leather, for example, which some vegetarians don't concern themselves with. But to say you're a vegetarian who eats fish is just fibbing. The word is pescetarian.

Television, for example. Some poncey arse decided it would be more acceptable if it had a classically-derived name.

we can snatch them from. Meaning is usage and all that

I reckon there's a difference between "Table" and "PIDery" as one was made up ages ago and everyone know what it means, and one I made up a month ago and only 3 other people know what it means. Obviously there are shades in between and community specific words like "mindpiss"..... anyway, erm stuff.

words become 'proper' words when people use them and others understand them.
(, Tue 16 Aug 2011, 12:00, Reply)
Also the problem with this line is that if enough people start misusing words we have to accept that phrases like "I could care les" are valid, even if they sound like gibberish.

Although, in terms of linguistics, it's true, I am not a vegetarian, so I won't complain if told I'm not one.
