Actually, one thing I discovered at the last barbecue I went to
Was that buying a pork roasting joint, and hacking into big thick slabs, works really bloody well over the coals.

Easy to do, easy to cook, easy to impress the carnivores.

A good bbq costs the host a fortune in meat.

My rule is that I will do it properly if the invitees bring LOADS of booze. Preferrably so I have quite a bit left.

Actually, that was the best part about using a roasting joint
The fat crisped up a treat over the flames, so you ended up with huge thick pork steaks with attached crackling.
