I had to explain the concept
of a 'supper' meaning +chips to the scouse one.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:27, Reply)
I've heard of a fish supper.
But really supper is what posh people call an early evening meal, and what us types call a before-bed snack, like tea and toast.

hot chocolate
was supper in my house when I was a kid
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:34, Reply)
A bowl of Rice Krispies before bed when I was a nipper.
That was 'supper' for me.

no no no
cereal at non breakfast times had to be from a mug
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:37, Reply)
The only food that is acceptable from a mug is a cuppa-soup.
And cuppa-soup is never acceptable in any form. So you're wrong.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:37, Reply)
Cereal for supper is fine.
Especially with warm milk.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:43, Reply)
mmm weetabix, too much sugar
and warm milk
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:49, Reply)
Yup, or hot chocolate and a mint Viscount.
Or some milk and Penguins.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:36, Reply)
I always thought supper was what you had
if were middle class and you'd had an early tea and were hungry again by around 8.30. I did not know that chips were an integral part of the process.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:37, Reply)
I understand that the further north you go, the greater the reliance on chips.

(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:38, Reply)
You're right berk.
He's speaking in chip-shop addict language. Or 'Scots'.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:42, Reply)
There is a uniquely scottish belief
that chips are a vegetable.
(, Thu 18 Aug 2011, 19:48, Reply)
You're all English philistines.
'supper' means 'and chips'. It's just a culinary fact.
