The thing about not having read a newspaper
or watched TV in weeks (other than torchwood) means I'm not entirely sure of this plotline. The goodies are winning, right? Sweet.

they got rid of the decent characters and stuck with Gwen because she's pretty. I'm not a fan of Torchwood but it's even worse now

You've got to hand it to them, it's at least moved on from the big-gay-welsh-Men-in-Black that the first two series were
It is still incredibly silly, I just want to know how it ends. As long as they don't go for the same style of dreadful grief-porn ending as the last one.

Yeah, actually, based on the ending of the last episode,
I can see them setting up a crass and obvious "tragedy" for the finale in the hope of adding "poignancy" to what is otherwise just a daft bit of Gay Welsh Sci-fi.

Well, quite - just look at the end of the Tate/Tennent series
Part 1 - set up a fantastic (if rather far-fetched) apocalyptic crisis scenario.

Part 2 - resolve said apocalyptic crisis in the first 20 minutes with some lazy magic-button-pushing so we can get on with another 25 minutes of mawkish sentimental "human drama."
